INTERCITY: SAFER RAILWAY DEVELOPMENT WITH BIM

The Norwegian National Rail Administration is building a double-track section of line from Sandbukta in Moss municipality to Såstad in Rygge municipality. A new railway station in Moss is also being planned. In autumn 2014 Sweco was awarded the consultancy contract for InterCity on the Østfold Line.

ASSIGNMENT AND SOLUTION

In collaboration with Rambøll, Sweco will assess the Sandbukta–Moss–Såstad section of line. The project involves 10 km of double-track line that will form part of the 230 km InterCity development. Once the section of line is completed, thousands of passengers will receive an improved train service on the Østfold Line.

Responsibility for BIM coordination and BIM strategy
Sweco is responsible for BIM coordination and BIM strategy in this interdisciplinary collaboration. Sweco's BIM experts have prepared a BIM strategy that stipulates clear targets in accordance with the assignment's guidelines. Construction of the Sandbukta–Moss–Såstad section of line is scheduled to start in 2018.

BIM ensures a good result
The Norwegian National Rail Administration has stipulated stringent requirements for 3-D/BIM models from all project disciplines. We use the latest BIM tools to ensure that the project is carried out with the best results. We use technical and ground models as a basis for external communication and meetings, project execution, cost and time estimates, etc.
